The history of Christianity in India is a story that is still developing. With continuing legacies, schools, churches and other institutions, the Church still commands a lot of influence today. Even in the face of Hindu nationalism, the Church protests and demonstrates, against unfair legislation and unfair treatment.
Christianity to me is more than just a religious tradition, it's a cultural one. The Christian community represents home, a sense of belonging, and pride.
Christianity in India is a subject one can immerse themselves in, and I have barely scratched the surface of the multitudes of faiths and experiences that are included in the faith. My journey to Kerala was marred with a loss of a loved one, disappointment, challenges and trials. Yet I always could, and did, find solace in my community members and my family back at home. The traditions of Christians in India may change; their customs and ceremonies might be reformed; and their churches and basilicas may be rebuilt. Regardless of the change that occurs, the spirit of the tradition: of acceptance and community, will always remain a central part of the faith.
